Men’s Trauma Group
At least 60% of men report experiencing at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. As is the case with all individuals in respect to differences in temperament, coping skills, personal experiences, there are those that can handle traumatic events, crises without experiencing symptoms that persist longer than 2 weeks, or 6 months., and resume normal functioning in their everyday lives. However, there are others that go on to develop serious mental illnesses or experience chronic bouts of depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress episodes, substance abuse, problems managing anger, interpersonal difficulties to name a few.
To address this issue, Men’s Trauma Group utilizes evidenced-based, gender specific trauma interventions for male trauma survivors. Elements of the group work will include understanding the nature of trauma, its short-term and long-term effects on functioning, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, shame, stigma from society, and performing personal and social roles. The group will focus on the development of adaptive coping skills, effective communication, and relationship skill building, managing emotions, and building resilience.
This group is appropriate for males from ages 18 and up. This is an open-group, and individual therapy is also available if needed.
